Suspicions that a Myrtle Beach man may be involved with a string of bank robberies in South Carolina and at least one surrounding state are expected to lead to his being charged in federal charges. That's the word today from authorities.

They report that the man, who was taken into custody late last month just after an alleged bank robbery in Georgetown, South Carolina, is also suspected of being responsible for at least one, possibly two, unsolved bank robberies in Kentucky.

Federal criminal charges are serious. The process that is involved in dealing with them can be complex. It's crucial to have an experienced attorney on your side early in the game if you find yourself facing such charges.

In the case at hand, officials in Richmond say that a Nike baseball cap may be the significant link between all the robberies under investigation. They say the suspect was wearing such a hat during each of the crimes in question, including the Dec. 29 robbery in Georgetown. He was reportedly apprehended by two off-duty officers who happened to be entering the bank just as the suspected robber was leaving.

In Richmond, authorities say they believe the same man is responsible for the Nov. 10 robbery at a Chase Bank in that city and at another bank about an hour earlier the same day in the town of Lexington.

The 41-year-old suspect is reported to be in the custody of South Carolina authorities. Richmond police say they expect he likely will face numerous bank robbery charges in the federal court system.
